The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a fire Monday morning that caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to a second floor apartment. Fire crews responded to the 1000 block of Cross Park Avenue in Iowa City at about 1:10 a.m. Monday for a report of a fire in an apartment building, according to a city news release. When firefighters arrived, they discovered smoke coming from a second floor apartment, the release said. Crews brought the fire under control and assisted residents in safely leaving the building. Nineteen firefighters were on scene for about an hour responding to the blaze, the release said.
