Council Bluffs firefighters responded to a house fire near Willow Avenue and Bluff Street early Friday. At about 5:30 a.m., crews were dispatched to the residence, 40 Bluff St., after a report of smoke and flames was called in by a witness. Firefighters were able to put the flames out but the structure suffered heavy damage, according to authorities. No one was injured, but a pet cat died during the fire. The Red Cross was contacted to help the residents as the house was declared unlivable.
