Fire destroyed a barn Monday night on Lucas Drive east of Knoxville. The structure is owned by state Trooper Jon Thorup, a candidate for Iowa House District 28. No people or livestock were injured in the fire. Crews were dispatched shortly before 8 p.m. to the barn, which Knoxville Township Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson described a catch-all structure. The corrugated metal building contained firewood and scrap metal. The cause of the fire will be investigated, Thompson said. Other crews responding included Clay Township Rural Fire, Pella Fire Department and Indiana Township Rural Fire.
