VIDEO: Quick thinking by a child on the way out of a burning home prevented a fire from doing more damage to a Sioux City house Saturday. Before leaving the house at 2826 Nebraska St., the child closed the door of a basement room in which a fire had started. That action contained the fire to a single room, said Ryan Collins, Sioux City Fire Rescue deputy fire marshal. "That saved quite a bit of property damage that could have happened otherwise," Collins said. Collins said it was the second time in less than a week that a resident had closed the door to a room in which a fire had started before exiting. Collins said it's a good reminder that if it's safe to do so, always close doors when evacuating a building in an effort to contain the blaze.
