VIDEO: A packed house along the main street Wednesday night as every restaurant in Solon donated a part of their profits to save lives and save taxpayer dollars. Firefighters greeted diners to tell them about the need for a new fire station and thank them for donating or contributing by coming out to have dinner. Like many smaller towns near Iowa City, Fire Chief Bob Siddell says Solon is experiencing growing pains as housing and businesses in the area expand. He says volunteer fire crews actually built the original fire house in 1959, a part of the existing building that's still used today, but he says it's time to look to the future, "We're unfortunately at a record pace right now for calls for the year and we're just out of room we need more room to provide our service to the community.
