VIDEO: A Northwest Iowa town is without a grocery store after flames took over the building early this morning. A fire of this magnitude is devastating for any town, but for the nearly 1,700 residents of Remsen, it's more than just losing a store. I went to Remsen to talk with witnesses about what this long-time grocery meant to them. Michelle Poeckes recalls the scene she saw this early morning. "All the sudden there was this huge fire," said Poeckes. Just before 4:15 Sunday morning, a fire broke out at the back of Remsen's only grocery store, Farm Fresh Foodtown and liquor. "It's unbelievable, I mean this has been in Remsen for so long," said Poeckes. The long-time grocery store has now been red-tagged after firefighters say flames were coming through the roof.
