VIDEO: The man who killed a Cedar Rapids woman and burned down her garage to cover the crime will spend the rest of his life in prison. 39-year-old Timothy Evans pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the death of Gina Frederiksen. Originally Evans had also faced charges of robbery, burglary, and arson. Evans plea to first-degree murder carries with it that mandatory life in prison sentence without parole. What is unique is about this situation is that this was not a plea deal but rather an act of guilty conscience from Evans. In a Linn County courtroom Friday, Evans waived his right to a trial, opting instead to change his plea from not guilty to guilty. He also requested the judge impose an immediate sentence.
