Two men were injured in an overnight house fire, one of three blazes that broke out in the city over the last 24 hours. The injured had minor smoke inhalation and minor burns and were released from UnityPoint-Allen Hospital after treatment, said Battalion Chief Mike Moore with Waterloo Fire Rescue. He said smoke alarms in the duplex at 420 Center St. woke the residents around 1:20 a.m. “Smoke alarms played a big part. That’s why people got out in time. In this case, had smoke alarms not alerted that occupant, we may have been pulling people out of windows. It would have been a matter of a few minutes and they wouldn’t have been able to get out the way they did,” Moore said.
