A family member tells TV9 a 57-year-old man has died after a fire at Shamrock Apartments in Cedar Rapids, Saturday morning.
Crews headed to 222 Jacolyn Drive SW around 9:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a man trapped inside a burning apartment. Before emergency responders arrived, neighbors had gotten inside the unit and put out flames with extinguishers, according to authorities.
Authorities transported the victim to University of Iowa Hospitals with severe burns. His cousin tells TV9 the man died there, Saturday afternoon. Cedar Rapids authorities have identified the man killed following Saturday's fatal fire.
In a news release, Public Safety Communications Coordinator Greg Buelow said Thomas M. Jones, 57, of Cedar Rapids, had been identified as the victim.
Jones lived at 222 Jacolyn Drive SW, apartment one.
