Jon Anderson will not be Mason City's next fire chief. City Administrator Aaron Burnett announced Anderson's decision Tuesday morning. He said in a news release that while he was disappointed, he respected Anderson's decision. "The civil service commission is most likely going to reconvene to establish a new list of potential candidates for the Fire Chief position," Burnett said in a statement. Mason City Personnel Director Perry Buffington said Tuesday he didn't have a timeline for that possible civil service commission search. He declined to comment when asked about his reaction to Anderson choosing to forgo the position.
