PHOTO: A Blakesburg man was taken to the hospital Monday evening after crashing his pickup truck into the foundation of a former church building. Around 6:30 p.m., Blakesburg firefighters were called to the property on Bluegrass Road. Crews at the scene believe an unknown medical condition might have caused the driver to lose control of the wheel. Assistant Fire Chief Mike DeWild told KTVO the driver was immediately taken to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center with unknown injuries. He said the Blakesburg Fire Department had just burned the vacant building down Saturday as part of a routine firefighter training. Firefighters had to be mindful of lingering hot spots as the vehicle was being towed from the property Monday night.
