The City of Fort Madison has approved a new ordinance to ban all but the lowest class of fireworks within the city limits. Following the July Fourth Holiday, the city council of Fort Madison had a number of citizens ask the council to ban the use of fireworks within the city limits. Many people talked about the loud noise causing people with health issues and animals distress. The council told the residents that they would, in fact, consider an ordinance since fireworks are now legal in the state. Monday night the council discussed the possible options and then began to reach a consensus on a ban of most fireworks within the city limits, other than the lowest class of fireworks and those approved by the fire chief and given a permit.
