A fire caused significant damage to a house in Britt Thursday evening. The Britt Fire Department responded to a fire at 361 Fifth St. S.W. at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The home is owned by Cindy Bartlett-Waddell, according to Hancock County online property records. Britt Fire Chief Jon Swenson said when the fire department arrived at the scene, there weren’t any large flames coming from the house but it was smoldering. “This one was caused by old wiring in the house,” he said. No one was injured in the fire, Swenson said, noting one of the residents may have been transported to the local hospital. Nearly 20 firefighters spent a couple hours Thursday night working to contain the fire, before returning Friday morning when it reignited, Swenson said. The electricity, gas and water have been shut off at the residence.
