Fire crews responded to reports of 17 fires Wednesday night in the Twin Falls District, and as of Thursday morning had gained the upper hand on many. The Coonskin Complex Fire raced through 3,000 acres in just a few hours Wednesday 15 miles southwest of Castleford. Firefighters now have a "pretty good handle" on the fire, said Josh Olsen, spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Olsen said containment on the Buck Flat Fire southwest of Castleford is expected at 10 p.m. today with control following at 10 p.m. Friday. That fire is estimated at about 3,000 acres. A fire burning east of Dietrich in the Black Ridge area is currently at 3,000 acres and containment is not expected until Saturday, Olsen said. The Crows Nest Fire, which started around 7 p.m. Wednesday east of Castleford, is now estimated at 899 acres.
