The Pullman Fire Department and Moscow Volunteer Fire Department are responding to more calls than in past years, but both departments say they are managing the increased workload, for the most part.
The PFD responded to about 2,900 calls in 2013, but that number increased to about 3,900 responses in 2016, PFD Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Scharnhorst said. Scharnhorst said he expects calls to rise again this year, likely to about 4,200. If the trend continues, the responses should reach 4,500 calls in 2018, Scharnhorst said.
