The Pocatello Fire Department is preparing to replace three fire trucks that have been in commission for a combined 75-plus years.
Approved unanimously by the Pocatello City Council in December, the fire department will spend approximately $1.78 million on three 2018 Pierce Arrow XT pumper trucks, which are expected to arrive by the end of the year, according to Travis Smith, the assistant chief of operations for the Pocatello Fire Department.
“The National Fire Protection Association has certain standards that they put out that are more data-driven and statistically-backed recommendations,” Smith said. “The standard says that we should replace our front line apparatus every 10 years. Further, they say you should decommission or recondition after 20 years.”
