The Twin Falls Fire Department is one step closer to a fire station remodel and addition of another location.
After examining their needs for the several months, the department sent requirements to an architect to start drawing the remodels and the new station.
"This is probably around the halfway mark I'd say hopefully," said Les Kenworthy, the Twin Falls Fire Chief.
Kenworthy said the fire department needs to accommodate newer responsibilities like canyon rescues, hazmat situations and expanded EMT calls.
Part of the wish list for the fire department are facilities to help clean and deal with equipment used in Hazmat situations. Overall Kenworthy said they needed to address growing health concerns for firefighters.
"Firefighters number one risk is heart attack also cancer is right behind that so there's some things in a modern day fire station that we don't have here in twin and we're looking at those things too," Kenworthy said.
