Investigators said a woman was injured after she fell asleep in bed while smoking a cigarette and ignited a house fire. The Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to a residence at 1000 Cathryn Ave. for a report of a structure fire at approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday. When fire crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the corner bedroom of the one-story home. The occupants were out of the home by the time firefighters arrived on scene. The fire was quickly extinguished, and investigators concluded that an adult female in the home started the fire after she fell asleep in bed with a lit cigarette. She suffered superficial burns and smoke inhalation and was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls for treatment. Authorities have not released her identity nor her current condition status.
