Investigators haven’t found a cause for an engine fire that burned a pickup truck and scorched nearby plants late Thursday night in Jerome. The Jerome Fire Department was called out at about 11:30 p.m. to the 500 block of East Avenue D for a pickup truck on fire. Deputy Fire Chief Mike Harrison said the fire started in the engine compartment, burning the truck and nearby shrubs and bushes. When fire fighters arrived, the engine compartment was “fully involved.” Harrison said firefighters had the fire extinguished in about 10 minutes. No one was injured but the 2014 Ford F250 is believed to be a total loss. A neighbor told KMVT News she could hear loud popping and the third one caused her to get up and run to the door. Savannah Armstrong said she should see flames go to the tops of the nearby tree about 30-35 feet in the air. The flames could be seen bursting from the truck and melting the front end.
