At 6564 Atlas Road in Coeur d’Alene, Kelan McKiernan is home.
“First time grabbing my gear off the shelf in two months,” McKiernan said.
After being gone, he’s back on shift.
“It just felt so good to get some normalcy in the world again,” he said.
His gear may have some dust, but the heart inside McKiernan pumps faster than a call for service.
Everyday for the last two months, Kelan has been with his three-year old son, Maddex, in Memphis.
“You spend every single day at the hospital,” he said.
Maddex is the blood that pumps through Kelan’s veins; they do everything together.
Two months ago, Maddex was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.
Kelan says the tumors in Maddex’s eyes spread quickly.
