A firefighter with the Bureau of Land Management said they get thanked quite often, however they are not allowed to accept certain gifts.
"Over the years we've had people give us gifts and the community wants to thank us for the work that we do. We’re really appreciative of the community support that we get," said Justin Lammers, an engine captain with the BLM.
Lammers said they get thanked quite a bit.
"We’ll have people come up and pat us on the back and say thank you for what you do and we really appreciate it," he continued. "It makes us feel really good and proud of what we do to help the public and help protect the public ground."
However, sometimes they receive gift baskets or offers to get their meals paid for. According to Kelsey Brizendine, the fire information officer with the BLM, she said that there are federal regulations as to what their firefighters are allowed to accept.
"Our firefighters are not allowed to accept anything that is over $20, and that’s an accumulative thing," she said.
