Hot embers might have caused a fire that damaged a shed and some lawn equipment early Tuesday near Lake in the Hills, a fire official said. Huntley Fire Protection District crews were dispatched about 1:30 a.m. to a home in the 800 block of Peach Tree Court for a shed fire, Lt. Mike Pierce said. By the time firefighters arrived, the homeowner had extinguished the fire with a garden hose, Pierce said. Firefighters checked for spots that were still burning, but Pierce said they never had to add water to the charred structure. "The homeowners actually had a pretty good knock on the fire with the garden hose for as going as it must have been at one time," Pierce said. The fire didn't reach any other structures or destroy the shed, Pierce said. The blaze did damage the shed, including some siding and lawn equipment such as a lawn mower and leaf blower, Pierce said. He did not have a damage estimate. Pierce said the fire likely started when they homeowners put some hot embers they believed were cold in a garbage can inside the shed.
