A vacant North Valley home sustained an estimated $40,000 in damage after a fire Thursday night.
Firefighters responded about 7:40 p.m. to the blaze at 1030 NE Monroe St. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the house, said Battalion Chief Tom Carr. Carr said the flames — contained to the front room and porch area — were under control within about 10 minutes.
Despite the damage, Carr said at the scene that the structure might not be a total loss.
Heat from the fire also melted some of the siding at 1028 NE Monroe. This neighboring house also was believed to be vacant, Carr said.
He said 23 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire still was under investigation.
