The number of responses for the Jacksonville Fire Department increased again last year, continuing a yearly rise that has gone on since 2011. There were about 2,100 calls for the fire department last year. In 2011, there were a little more than 1,300. Fire Chief Doug Sills said the increased responses have put extra wear and tear on equipment and spread the available staff, especially because of the number of simultaneous calls.
