Rockford’s Home Depot store gave the Rockford Fire Department 200 smoke alarms. The detectors are top of the line, powered by lithium batteries that will last up to ten years. The smoke alarms will be installed in homes throughout the city of Rockford. Every fire truck and apparatus is equipped with about a dozen smoke alarms. If firefighters are out on a call and notice someone doesn’t have a working detector, they will either give them new batteries or replace the gadget. “We can directly put these smoke alarms in someone’s house today if need be or in the future months here and we know we’re giving them the affordability to be safe,” says Timothy Morris Jr. with the Rockford Fire Department.
