A basement fire in a central Peoria rental property early Thursday morning sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries.
Firefighters responded shortly after 5:30 a.m. to a reported basement fire in the 2100 block of N. Bourland. Crews arrived to find a one-story house with fire venting from the basement window. The fire was extinguished within minutes, and damage was largely contained to a basement bedroom, but other areas of the house also suffered smoke and heat damage.
No one was inside when firefighters arrived, but two occupants of the home were taken to OSF Saint Francis for observation. The Red Cross was notified to help the occupants.
Damage is estimated at $30,000. The fire remains under investigation.
