An afternoon of volunteering turned into a call to action for Cassie Guerrero and other First National Bank employees Thursday afternoon when they saw smoke coming from the house at 902 Prospect St. Just before 1 p.m. Guerrero, Jay Riippi, Sue Schafer and Nicole Fisch were placing door hangers that promote the new DeKalb County 211 emergency service line, part of the annual Day of Caring event put on by the Kishwaukee United Way. Then they saw the smoke, called 911 and made a beeline for the house. “We all ran to it, because we see there’s four little kids in the backyard that were playing, and so we’re yelling if there was anyone else in the house,” Guerrero said.
