The Streator firefighters union filed an unfair labor practice complaint against the city of Streator — its second complaint since 2016.
The union says the city manager violated labor rules when he sent a letter to union representation stating the city's intent to remove code enforcement from firefighters' duties.
The union says the letter was retaliatory in nature, while the city manager says he was following through with a necessary procedure.
The letter dated May 29 requests "to meet and confer with the union in order to, and for the purpose of, restarting and continuing negotiations" and "to address and bargain the impact" of removing code enforcement duties from firefighters.
Streator firefighters handle a portion of the city's code enforcement, issuing citations such as weed ordinances, debris and fire code violations.
