Peoria firefighters are coping with working a truck down.
Nearly a week ago, Peoria Rescue One was shut down because the department couldn't afford the overtime pay to keep it on the road.
Peoria Firefighter's Union Secretary Jay Simmons says that, after budget and job cuts in the fall, the Fire Department was under the impression that all 17 machines would still be operating. However, he now feels that is not the case.
"When it comes to June and we are faced with the policy that we're faced with right now," says Simmons, "it's very frustrating because we felt like we were part of the solution in the fall. Now here we are and the agreement we came to is not what it seems."
Though certain calls have had to be handled by other companies due to Rescue One's shutdown, Simmons says that the Fire Department is coping well with the changes.
