Mount Prospect has purchased the MB Financial Bank office site at 111 E. Rand Rd., just south of Kensington Road, for $1.47 million in the village’s ongoing effort to find a new home Fire Station 13.
Trustees authorized the acquisition at their May 15 village board meeting. “This gives us an opportunity to secure this property, which we believe has great strategic value to our emergency response mission for the fire department,” Village Manager Michael Cassady said. “For the last 4-5 months, we have been identifying options for a new fire headquarters.”
FGM Architects completed a Space Needs Analysis Study last November, which was presented to the village board. According to that study, the existing station at Northwest Highway and Maple Street, shared with police, continues to struggle with tight quarters — particularly between beds and the fire department garage — leading to a delay in response times during emergencies.
