Off-duty officer critically injured in Chicago's Portage Park house fire

An off-duty Chicago police officer was critically injured in a house fire on Chicago's Northwest Side Monday afternoon. The officer and his dog escaped from the burning home in the 4000-block of North Mason in the Portage Park neighborhood, authorities told ABC7. The officer is in critical condition at Lutheran General Hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation, police said. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.
