Franklin and Simpson Elementary School students put their fire safety knowledge to the test in October through Smokehouse Training programs with local firefighter Shawn Gregory.
As part of National Fire Prevention Month, Gregory works with students in the county's elementary schools each year, bringing a house trailer that simulates being in a fire situation.
"I love interacting with all the kids," Gregory said. "If they take something away from it, I'm happy. I try to change it up for every age group."
