Mason County Commissioners agreed Tuesday to join a lawsuit that aims to hold opioid manufacturers financially responsible for the costs associated with the current drug epidemic. Assistant County Attorney Jackie Sue Shadoan said the lawsuit is part of a nationwide push and is modeled after the tobacco lawsuits of the 1990s concerning advertising, marketing and promotion of tobacco products that eventually brought about the tobacco settlements with 46 state attorneys general, including Kentucky.
