The Bowling Green City Commission on Tuesday approved $17.6 million in fiscal year 2018 capital projects, as well as a $420,000 purchase of a new 911 phone system for the Bowling Green Police Department. The city also formally approved accepting a $300,000 brownfields assessment grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a first step in redeveloping properties in the city’s west end. The capital improvement projects approved included $1.4 million for land acquisition for three new fire stations; $1.2 million for three fire engine replacements; $500,000 for new sidewalks; $660,000 for 12 new police vehicles; $2.35 million for street repaving; $1.2 million for downtown improvements currently in the planning process; $2.6 million for various improvements and projects at city parks and $295,000 for improvements at the Sloan Convention Center.
