When retired firefighter Eddie Fryman returned home Friday about 2:45 p.m. he discovered his neighbor’s home on Quandy Court was ablaze.
“When I got home the garage was on fire,” Fryman said. “I knocked on the door and it was locked. I beat on the door for a long time. One garage door was open and the other was open several feet above the ground.”
Fryman and other neighbors checked around the house as two cars were in the driveway, but soon the heat and smoke drove them away as several units from the Scott County Fire Department arrived.
The fire started in or near the garage of the two-story house, but quickly spread.
Brad Haddix was working nearby when he saw the smoke and investigated.
“There was a guy checking the downstairs, but the upstairs was too hot,” he said.
The fire was intense and it took firefighters some time to get the blaze under control. In fact almost 90 minutes after the fire was called in, firefighters were still battling flareups.
