The Leitchfield Fire Department received a donation of more than $600 from local business Twin Lakes Liquors this week to shop for needy children this holiday season.
Twin Lakes Liquors employees saved all of their tips from June through Dec. 3 to contribute to the Leitchfield Fire Department's Shop with a Firefighter program, and, on Monday, the business announced the total funds raised for the cause.
Twin Lakes Liquors Manager Edie Swift said her employees raised a total of $650, which, according to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall, will allow firefighters to shop for six children in need.
"All of us ladies here, we're moms, so giving the kids a Christmas means a lot," said Swift. "We would hate the thought of a kid waking up at Christmas not having anything."
Duvall said that, as of Monday, the fire department will be shopping for clothes, food, and other items for 16 children in need this holiday season.
