One person was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center Monday following a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 75 in Whitley County. The woman, whose name has not been released, was one of three people extricated after a Ford Taurus station wagon rear-ended a Buick sedan on northbound I-75 near the 27-mile marker. Corbin firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 3:10 p.m. Battalion Chief Jack Partin said firefighters were initially paged to a non-injury wreck, but were later advised that one patient was unconscious. Firefighters removed the left side doors on both vehicles to extricate the drivers. “We had them out within about 10 minutes of arriving on the scene,” Partin said. A PHi Air Methods helicopter was called to the scene and landed on the interstate to transport the female, who was a passenger in the Taurus. The driver of each vehicle was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Corbin.
