Learning the proper way to set up ladders, practicing first aid, and participating in fire control drills -- that's just a small part of the Firefighter Certification required by the state. More than 100 people initially applied to be part of this year's recruitment class for the Bowling Green Fire Department. As of Thursday, BGFD Captain of Training Shannon Pardue says there are nine people remaining, officially taking part in the training.
"We have a hiring process once every year," says Pardue. "Every year we hire a different number. It's based on our need."
Recruits are required to complete 400 hours of training over a 12 week span, along with written tests and interviews.
