A Lexington firefighter is being honored with the department's second highest award for bravery after he saved a friend who nearly drowned. Battalion Chief Lee Hayden has worked for the Lexington Fire Department 23 years. While off-duty at Cave Run Lake with a friend, Hayden saved his friend Damon Horton. It happened in the Summer of 2016. Horton was tubing behind Hayden's boat. "His shorts had come down and restricted his legs from propelling himself up," said Hayden. Chief Hayden jumped in and rescued his friend. For his bravery, the Lexington Fire Chief awarded him the Firefighter's Cross. He's the only one of four firefighters to receive the department's second highest honor.
