Straub Elementary School students honored local firefighters for Valentine's Day Wednesday.
Students from the classes of Melanie Sutton, Renee Biddle, Jennifer Kidd and Ashley Miller crowded into the school's cafeteria Wednesday after lunch and distributed Valentine's Day cards to several firefighters.
According to Sutton, half of the first-grade classes honored police officers at Thanksgiving and the second half decided to honor the firefighters for Valentine's Day.
"This is something we try to do each year," she said. "We honored the police officers in November and wanted to do the same for the firefighters today. It's just the school's way of saying 'thank you' for everything the firefighters do for us."
