Two Fire Departments will merge and fulfill a dream they've had since the 1980s. Middletown and Anchorage have filed to become one-- the Anchorage-Middletown Fire and EMS Department.
The merger will allow more efficient EMS coverage.
Combining the two departments would mean a property tax increase, but with cutbacks looming, both fire chiefs believe it's what's best for the community - and feel that community is on board. "We did need each other's help and I think our motto going forward is stronger together, which is what we would be, not only department wise but also for the community,” Middletown Fire Chief Andy Longstreet said.
