Throughout last fall and the first half of the 2018 General assembly, lawmakers repeatedly have said they’ve never seen as much public interest as is shown about potential changes to the state’s badly underfunded public pension systems.
The release on Tuesday night of Senate Bill 1, the latest proposal to reform the pension systems, and the public response seem to bear that out — lawmakers say they’re hearing from constituents, especially teachers, and the reaction is “mixed.”
“Actually, I think everybody is still trying to process what’s in it, but the reaction so far I’m hearing is mixed,” said John “Bam” Carney, R-Campbellsville.
