Volunteer firefighters with the Middletown Fire Protection District spent the weekend training. The Chief said Middletown is one of the last departments offering classes in volunteer recruit training. They train for six to eight months. Training is free and often leads to full-time positions. On Sunday, recruits learned how to save themselves or a fellow firefighter on the job. "We're lifting up firemen that supposedly may have fell in holes or just may be down so it takes a lot and then your gloves take away dexterity so it's a process, it's a process," recruit Mychal Thompson said.
