A motor vehicle collision early Sunday morning claimed the life of Mohannad Alrayes, an Eastern Kentucky University student and a member of the White Hall Volunteer Fire Department. Richmond Police say the crash between Alrayes’ motorcycle and another vehicle occurred Sunday around 2 a.m. at Four Mile Avenue and Ty Lane. Alrayes, 27, was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he died near 3:30 a.m. from multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the emergency department, the Fayette County Coroner’s office confirmed. RPD is investigating the crash, and is being assisted by Kentucky State Police, which is conducting an accident reconstruction. Remembering a friend EKU professor and coordinator of the fire protection and safety engineering technology program, William (Bill) Hicks, spoke with The Register about Alrayes, who he said was nearing the completion of his degree in fire, arson and explosion investigation.
