The case against a Girdler man accused of fatally shooting a volunteer firefighter in April is being pushed until next year due to vital evidentiary items that are still investigated by police. Sidney Smith, 28, appeared in Knox County Circuit Court Friday for a pretrial conference, where Commonwealth’s Attorney Jackie Steele said that several items, such as a pickup truck allegedly used to transport the body, was in the possession of the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab undergoing DNA analysis. According to Steele, that process is expected to take another “five to six months.”
