The man police say accidentally sent four EMS first responders to the hospital after setting off bug bombs is in jail for arson.
Police say that Jackie Abbott, 59, was charged after he set fire to his apartment in an attempt to get rid of bed bugs in the house. According to an arrest citation, Abbott acknowledged he knew that the other adjacent apartments were occupied but that he decided to light the fire anyway to get rid of the infestation.
Earlier this year, LEX 18 spoke with Abbott after he set off three bug bombs inside the apartment. Four Wayne County First Responders were sent to the hospital after the high level of toxic fumes made them sick.
"I set three bug bombs, three cans at a time and I was only supposed to do one. But I didn't know it," said Jackie Abbott.
All four of the EMS workers were okay.
Abbott is in the Wayne County Detention Center.
