One youngster in Owen County proved exactly why it's important to talk to your children about fire safety. Nine-year-old Jeremiah Jury was in the backseat of his family's truck with his four-year-old brother when the engine caught fire. Their father jumped out to get the boys, but the door locked behind him. The situation was tense, but Jeremiah kept his cool. "The doors locked, so he couldn't get in. So, I thought, I could get my brother out so I tried to get him out. I could never get the bottom buckle undone...but that time I got it undone," Jury said. For the first time ever, Jeremiah was able to release a stubborn buckle on his brother's car seat. He managed to get him out of the truck to safety. Jeremiah says he remembered what the Owenton-Owen County fire chief told him during a fire safety talk at the library. "'He told us to keep calm and never panic," remembers Jeremiah.
