The Haywood Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a federal grant to purchase a thermal imaging camera.
The grant is via the Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, and is worth $10,447. According to a news release issued by U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie's office, the grants are awarded to fire departments, emergency medical services organizations and state fire training academies.
"The Haywood Volunteer Fire Department does excellent work in Barren County," Guthrie said in the news release.
"This grant will help them purchase a thermal imaging camera, which will help the crew to see through a fire and locate people who need to be saved. This will be an excellent investment for the Barren County community and will save lives."
