A family escaped a house fire on Susannah Avenue Saturday. Lt. Justin Brown of the Bardstown Fire Department said dispatch received a 911 alarm call from an open line around 10 a.m., and then a neighbor called to say their was a fire in a bedroom closet at 440 Susannah Ave.
Flames were contained to the bedroom, but there was heat and smoke damage throughout the house, and firefighters had the fire under control within about 10 minutes of their arrival, Brown said.
Nelson County EMS was called because of a report of an elderly resident on oxygen, but he, his daughter and the three children who were at home all got out of the house without injury.
