Stop drop and roll, not playing with matches and having a meeting place were skills preschoolers at Providence Christian Academy learned Wednesday.
This week is Fire Prevention Week where fire departments around the United States educate school children about fire safety.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) declared the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week as “Look, Listen. Learn. Be aware- fire can happen anywhere.” The kindergarten class at the school will learn about fire prevention today and Anne Mason Elementary School will receive a visit from the fire department Friday.
The fire department has educated students on fire safety at Providence Christian Academy since 2004, according to Lisa Roach, early childhood director.
“The students go home and tell their families about what they learn and it will keep them safe in the event of a fire,” Roach said.
